Many people find it very stressful, the idea of expanding your business or living in a property without mains gas supply. The main problem is, prices of getting a new gas connection are not set in stone and can vary significantly depending on a number of different factors:
✓ Location – Around 3.6million homes are off the national grid. If you’re in a rural area it can be tricky to connect gas to your property so more expensive.
✓ No. of appliances – The larger the amount of energy needed, the larger the cost of the supply.
✓ Has the property previously had gas? – If so, it’s generally a simple task to get you reconnected, so costs will be kept to a minimum.
✓ Complexity of the works – If the installation work requires access to nearby properties, road closure etc. all of this will likely increase the cost of the work.
✓ How far is the gas meter from the mains? – The further the distance, the more difficult it is to get connected, therefore the more expensive the job.
You have two options, but if the property is in close proximity of your neighbours, you may find it easier to ask them first. If they have a gas connection, then chances are, there’s a supply right on your doorstep or very nearby. You will just need a pipe to run several meters to the site which will keep pricing low.
If they don’t have a connection or your neighbours are some distance from your property, your first option is to contact your Local Distributor Network Operator (DNO) or a Utility Infrastructure Provider (UPI). They will be able to tell you if you have a nearby connection, if it’s feasible and the complexity of the job.
If your area isn’t supplied with gas and is not within 23 meters of a gas main, you could consider getting a pipe laid and connected to the mains but this will put the cost up.
Alternatively, you can call us here at Crown Utilities and talk to one of our friendly team. They will then be able to assist you with finding out if you have a nearby connection and be able to advise you on the next steps.
If you’ve been told that there is a nearby gas supply, then you’re in luck. Contact your DNO or UPI for a quote for the works and they will get the ball running to get you connected in no time.
As one of the leading UPIs in the UK, we have a wealth of experience providing gas connections to home owners. Crown Utilities can undertake the project from start to finish to help you get the job done quickly and hassle-free, with minimal disruption to your premises.
Working closely with statutory providers enables us to offer the most competitive rates on the market, whilst maintaining a professional service.
Remember, this doesn’t include a gas meter installation, a gas connection merely gives you a gas source to tap into. In order to utilise your new gas connection, you will need a gas meter installing by a licensed gas meter installer.
Once you have your gas provider in place, the supplier will carry out your works usually within 5 working days.
As well as being a multi-utility company, Crown Utilities is also an approved meter operator. We have a wealth of experience supplying, disconnecting and relocating gas meters to businesses and home owners. Whatever the size and complexity of the job, we will complete the work without delay. You will receive an instant price, along with a confirmed date to get your gas solutions delivered before you know it. Whatever your requirements, we’ve got it covered.
As a multi-utility company, we also offer a full range of Gas Services, Electrical Services and Water Services to help get your utilities connected, as well as your meters installed, removed or relocated.
