How is my gas disconnected?
Disconnecting your gas supply is a straight forward enough process but it can be time-consuming depending on the property and where the gas pipe is connected to the mains supply.
Before the gas supply is cut off, your gas meter is locked to prevent the flow of gas into the property past the meter. Once locked, your gas supplier may physically remove the meter if they wish to retain it for future use. Lastly, the service pipe is cut up to the property boundary and capped (as it may be reconnected at a later date). Following this, they may send a gas registered technician to remove their metering equipment.
Temporary disconnection of your gas supply
If you’re undertaking any renovations or groundwork at your property, you can request for your gas to be disconnected temporarily. This will allow any work to be carried out safely and with minimal risk of accident.
How long will it take to complete the disconnection?
As every job is different. So we can’t provide an accurate timescale straight away, but the average length of time is generally between six to twelve weeks from quote to completion. After speaking to one of our team and providing the required information about the scope of work, we will then be able to provide insight into expected timescales.
Do I need to inform my gas provider my gas is being disconnected?
We will contact all of the relevant parties on your behalf to inform them that you have requested a gas disconnection. You will, however, need to speak to your gas provider regarding the cancellation of your contract.
